Living with blepharitis, or dry eyes, can be challenging, especially when you have allergies, wear glasses (or even worse, have contacts), and spend hours in front of a computer like I do. These factors can exacerbate the discomfort and make daily tasks a bit more daunting. However, over time, I’ve found a couple of essential tools that really help manage the irritation and keep my dry eyes in check.

1. Microwave Activated Warm Eye Compress
One of my absolute must-haves is a microwave activated warm eye compress. This simple yet effective remedy works wonders by providing soothing heat that helps unblock the oil glands in my eyelids, which is essential for proper tear production. The warmth is not only relaxing but also significantly reduces dryness and irritation. It’s easy to use; just a couple of minutes in the microwave and it’s ready. I apply it once or twice a day, especially after long sessions at the computer, and the relief is almost immediate.

2. These Eye Drops
The second critical item in my dry eye toolkit is a good quality eye drop. Over-the-counter drops designed specifically for dry eyes play a crucial role in my daily routine. They provide instant lubrication and comfort, especially during allergy season or after prolonged wear of my glasses. Something about the Flaxseed Oil feels so good on my eyes. They are expensive, but I tend to get at least 3 uses out of each vial! Plus, the cap can reseal easily. These are always at my bedside.
3. Lid Scrub
When my symptoms get particularly severe, I turn to a lid scrub. This helps keep my eyelid area clean and free from debris that can worsen dry eyes and irritation. The scrub works by gently removing oils and residues that build up on my lids, providing relief and helping to prevent further irritation.
For times when it’s really bad, I tend to use a lid scrub like this one. Just be careful not to get this in your eyes. I tend to apply them using my finger, but if you don’t feel comfortable, you can get some of these cheap cotton rounds.
Despite them saying you can leave it in, my eye doctor told me to rinse it off. I tend to use this in the shower so I’ll rub it in using my fingers and rinse it off shortly after.
They do make individual eyelid wipes, but they are really expensive on a per-use basis, so I tend to like to get this container.
